Locarno is located on the north shore of Lake Maggiore. The city
of 15,000 inhabitants, is ranking third in Canton Ticino after
Lugano and Bellinzona.
One of its symbols is the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso (see
picture), in Orselina. It’s a tourist destination thank to the
favorable microclimate and the presence of the lake. Locarno is
also known for the Locarno International Film Festival the
second festival, in terms of longevity, after the one in Venice.
Porlezza is about 55 km from Locarno.
